Solitary Man
Opens Aug 6, 2010
Former used cars salesman Ben Kalmen (Michael Douglas) comes across as a wonderful, charming man, so why is his life falling apart? Perhaps it's because he tends to spend a lot of time cheating, be it on his ex-wife (Susan Sarandon), his current partner (Mary Louise-Parker) or his bookkeeping. The intelligently written and remarkably acted Solitary Man follows Ben as he attempts to put his life back together, reconnecting with an old friend (Danny DeVito), attempting to mentor a naive college student (Jesse Eisenberg) and accompanying his partner's daughter (Imogen Poots) as she travels for an interview at his alma mater. "Solitary Man is funny and absorbing, and it features a lead performance by Michael Douglas that's both hugely entertaining in itself, and fascinating for the way it illuminates the actor's long, colorful career."
